SCHOOL
MANAGEMENT AWARD CEREMONY
The
National Council on Education (NCE) hosted its second School Management Award
Ceremony at the Hilton Kingston Hotel, on November 27, 2002. Twenty-one Boards
of Management representing Infant, Primary, All Age, Junior High and High schools
were recipients of the award. In addition, eight schools from those involved
in the NCE/USAID New Horizon Project were presented with the award of excellence.
The
main address was given by Honourable Maxine Henry Wilson, Minister of Education,
Youth and Culture.

School Management Awards
In keeping with its mandate
“to stimulate the development of education in Jamaica”, Council instituted the
NCE School Management Awards, the objectives of which are to:
- recognise the voluntary
and collective contribution of persons to the service of education;
- focus national attention
on programmes implemented to enhance school administration and student achievement;
- raise the level of interest
and participation in School Board service in communities island-wide;
- motivate School Board
members towards further improvement of this service to our country.
National
Council on Education (NCE)
The
National Council on Education (NCE) is a statutory body established in March
1993, by an Act of Parliament, the NCE Act.
Why
a National Council on Education?
The establishment of the
NCE reflects an attempt to ensure continuity in educational policies and programmes.
It is also intended to contribute to greater community involvement in the management
of educational institutions.
