  LASCO SALUTE TO TEACHERS AWARD

MR. BERNAL NEIL PRINCIPAL OF THE HOPEWELL PRIMARY SCHOOL IN ST. ELIZABETH IS THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND MISS HAZEL DUNCAN RETIRED PRINCIPAL OF LENNON HIGH SCHOOL IS THE RUNNER UP.

Eight teachers were selected under the LASCO SALUTE to teachers programme sponsored by LASCO at a function recently held at the Le Meridien Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The teachers were selected for the period May 2000 to August 2000. Two teachers, Mr. Bernal Neil , Principal of the Hopewell Primary in St. Elizabeth and Miss Hazel Duncan, Principal of the Lennon High School in Clarendon are the LASCO Teacher of the year and Runner up respectively. They were selected from a field of twenty awardees spanning the period September 1999 to August 2000.

Senator the Hon. Burchell Whiteman , Minister of Education Youth and Culture was the guest Speaker at the function..

J.T.A President Paul Adams brought greetings on behalf of the Association. He used the opportunity to speak out against the rapid escalation in violent crimes in the country. He challenged the government to take the necessary measures to control the upsurge. He also called on the Police to do their duties in protecting the citizens of this country.

The Lasco Salute to Teachers Award programme started four years ago to highlight Teachers and the important work they are doing.
