Western KingstonThe JTA extends condolences to the many parents and students of western Kingston who have lost members of their families in the recent incursion of the security forces into Tivoii gardens. The Association also extends its sympathy to and empathizes with those who have been negatively impacted by the activities which emanated from the invasion. The JTA encourages all teachers to continue to show resilience and fortitude in the face of the difficult times and commends those teachers who despite the risks, helped and continue to extend financial support and other assistance to so many students from Tivoli and other areas. President Elect Elections Four members have accepted nominations to contest the 2010 President Elect elections. The polls which started on June 21 ends on Friday, June 25, 2010. They are: Paul Adams, Principal of Herbert Morrison High School in St. James ![]() • Clayton Hall, Principal of Four Paths Primary and Junior High School in Clarendon ![]() • Mark Nicely, Principal of Hayes Primary and Junior High in Clarendon, and ![]() • Stevie Williams, Principal, Auchtembeddie Primary School in Manchester Golden Torch Award-2010 Over three hundred members with 35 or more years of service in teaching have been nominated for the Golden Torch Award. The presentation ceremony will take place July 1 at the Hilton Kingston Hotel. Annual Conference 2010 Annual conference 2010 will run from August 16 to18 at the Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa in Ocho Rios, St. Ann. The theme for this year’s conference will be “Creative Partnerships, Sustaining Educational Opportunities for National Development”. The National church service will be held at the Emmanuel Gospel Hall ,Portland on August 15, 2010. Registration forms are now available at all JTA Offices as well as the JTA website @ www.jamaicateachers.org.jm. Registration can be done on line. First payment of 50 percent is due by Friday June 25 with final payment being due by July 30,2010. BURSARY AND SCHOLARSHIP Forms for the VMBS bursary for teachers and the Wesley Powell Scholarship are now available at the JTA Head office, 97B Church Street, Kingston. Deadline for application for the VMBS Bursary is July 9, 2010 while the deadline for the W.A.Wesley Powell Scholarship is June 30.
