Holding
high expectations - Minister of Education, Youth and
Culture, Maxine Henry-Wilson
I
WISH to congratulate the Jamaica Teachers` Association
on 40 years of outstanding service to our country. Over
these four (4) decades, the Association has committed
itself to enhancing the status of our teachers and sharpening
their professional competence.
A
teacher is one of the most significant figures in a
child`s life. There are many intrinsic rewards in this
profession, and the JTA has played an integral role
in helping our teachers to view their occupation not
just as a job, but as a mission whereby students will
attain their goals and achieve academic progress.
It
is also through professional collaboration that our
teachers will be inspired to not only teach their subject
area, but to become nation-builders, creating socially
responsible citizens of their country.
As
you celebrate your 40th anniversary, I urge you all
to continue to hold high expectations for our children,
and persuade them to get high goals for themselves.
Respect and a positive attitude are two qualities that
we must instil in our youth. I am confident that through
the efforts of the JTA, our teachers will continue to
motivate our students to want to learn and accomplish
their goals.
Maxine
Henry-Wilson, M.P.
