Vibrant,
relevant and useful - Governor General, Sir Howard Cooke
THE
JAMAICA Teachers` Association is one of the most dedicated
organisations on our country. For years it has stood
as a voice to reckoned with in its earnest bid to promote
the best interests of its members and the profession
it serves. There is no doubt that the organisation has
remained vibrant, relevant and useful over the years
and so it should be.
I
bond in a very special way with the teaching profession,
not only because of past experiences, but also as a
result of the valuable role educators play in the development
of our society. It is with much pleasure therefore that
I extend congratulations to the members of the Jamaica
Teachers` Association as they celebrate the 40th anniversary
of the founding of the organisation. It is because of
the great role that our teachers have played as a driving
force for development in our communities, that I now
call on you to help us lead the way for a revival of
holistic education in our country and so better prepare
the way for our youth to acquire the social skills which
will lead to better values and attitudes in our country.
This has to go hand in hand with the academia.
On
behalf of the nation I extend gratitude to all teachers
for the valuable role they have played and will continue
to play in nation-building. I pray that the leadership
of the Jamaica Teachers` Association will continue to
be strengthened to the ultimate benefit of its members.
Howard Cooke
Governor-General
