Message - The Hon. Lascelles Chin, O.J.
 It is both an honour and a pleasure to join in the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA). Our dedicated teachers are among the most inspiring of all our professional groups. It is their efforts that provide the very foundation for achievement in just about every field of endeavour. As mentors and guides for the young of our land, their influence is second only to that of the immediate family member- and in many, many cases, teachers actually double as surrogate parents, providing a level of care and guidance way beyond the call of duty.
The Lasco Group of companies has been so impress by the contributions of JTA members, that we launched the annual Salute to Teachers awards programme in 1997. This Award seeks to honour and support outstanding teachers each year, rewarding their hard work, dedication and initiative with a substantial cash reward, a prestigious trophy, and positive national focus. The publicity is doubly important, as it highlights the fact that there are many Jamaican worthy of our respect and appreciation – despite the fact that there is so much attention paid to the negative influences in our midst.
We are proud of all of our JTA awardees and nominees through the years. Indeed we are proud of the JTA itself, as an outstanding association, which continues to provide important leadership and critical support for this vital group of professionals. Congratulations, and may the years to come prove a rewarding and praiseworthy as your Association’s first four decades.
