The Caribbean Union of Teachers (C.U.T)

The Caribbean Union of Teachers (CUT) came into being August 21, 1935 at its inaugural meeting in Trinidad and Tobago.

Among its objectives are:
To establish relationships regionally and internationally with professional and trade union organisations.

To promote within the Caribbean the aim, general principles and policies of
Education International.

The organisation is directed by:

* The Biennial Conference

* The Executive Committee

* The Secretariat

At the biennial conference, Officers are elected. The last biennial conference was held in St. Vincent and the Grenadines in August 2003.

The officers are:

President - Mr. Byron Farqhuarson, Jamaica 1st Vice President-Mr. Kingsley Black, Bahamas

2nd Vice President - Mrs. Avril Crawford, Guyana

3rd Vice President - Mr. Roustan Job, Trinidad and Tobago

Trustees - Mrs. Karen Best, Barbados

Mr. Marvin Andall, Grenada

Secretariat - 97 Church Street, Kingston Jamaica

General Secretary - Dr. Adolph Cameron, Jamaica

Deputy General Secretary - Mrs. Judith Spencer-Jarrett, Jamaica

The Executive Committee consists of the Officers and one representative from each full member unit.

The last meeting of the Executive Committee was held in British Virgin Islands in
December 2003. The next meeting will be hosted by the JTA in Kingston Jamaica in July 2004.

Upcoming events

* 10th Renewal of the Students` Athletics Championships, July 16 and 17, 2004
at the National Stadium, Kingston, Jamaica

Education Conference to be hosted by the Barbados Secondary Teachers` Union
in 2004.

* Biennial Conference to be hosted by the Bahamas Union of Teachers in July 2005
