JTA'S EDUCATION CONFERENCE
JTA’s Historical Fact
  • Did you know that as early as 1829, a training place for female teachers was started at New Carmel station in St. Elizabeth by Moravians during slavery? And, did you know that five months before Emancipation day in 1834, that there were 800 children, half of whom were still slaves, enrolled in Moravian schools.
  • Did you know that in 1977, through the instrumentality of the Jamaica Teachers Association that the Ministry of Education and Finance agreed to compensate teachers who might be injured in performance of their duties?
  • Do you know when the JTA Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. was registered?
Well , no need to worry; here is the answer.
The JTA Co-operative Credit Union Ltd. was registered in October 1959 as a Co-operative under the Co-operative Societies’ Act? The Corporative is celebrating fifty years of existence this year(2009). Call them for further information.
  • Do you know the names of the JTA calendar events which normally take place during April and May of each year?
Well, for some I can almost hear you answering, but for the others, here is the answer.
Every year during the month of April, Teachers are called to an Education Conference and in May they participate in Education week activities, chief of which are Teachers’ Day and Read Across Jamaica Day.
You did not know before, but, now you know. Now, make it a habit to listen to
Teachers’ Time on RJR 94 FM, every Sunday at 4:30PM.
